Simple logic aside, there is concrete evidence available to support these previously unsubstantiated claims. A rather telling statistic showing the rate of violent crime with respect to video game sales provides a salient argument proving the case that a consistent increase in video games sales caused violent crime to consistently decrease in return (Markey, Markey and French 4). Furthermore, the study builds upon this correlation by analyzing other variables such as monthly changes in video games and crime, keyword searches for violent video games and violent crime, and violent crime following the release of three popular video games (Markey, Markey and French 4-13). This research ultimately concluded that there ultimately was “no evidence to suggest that this medium was a major (or minor) contributing cause of violence in the United States.” (Markey, Markey and French 14).
